Data Wonderland / 2023
An interactive festival with data, animal trainers, and AI
Who has more health data about you—your family doctor or your smartphone? How many people do you know who could identify you just by looking at your list of medications? Does your fitness tracker know more about your health than you do? Some people see the collection of personalized health-related data and its evaluation by self-learning artificial intelligence systems as an inevitable path to the future. Others express concerns that future algorithms will use the collected data to determine individual recognition in society.
The Circus
The Data Wonderland festival invites visitors to engage with scientific findings on data and artificial intelligence in an accessible way. A kind of quirky fairground made up of tents, stalls, and caravans invites visitors to explore the opportunities and risks of collecting and using health-related data.
Visitors to the "Pillow Fight Club" can find out what type of fitness enthusiast they are. They test how difficult it is to teach a robot to make a sandwich, put artificial intelligence to the test of trust, travel back to the year 2078, venture into the universe with AI, and encounter their virtual data twin.

"Data Wonderland" is the public closing event of the project funded by the Federal Ministry
for Education and Research (BMBF) funded project
"Data access and data use in medical care and in the field of
Health and Leisure" (DaDuHealth) and draws on findings from the AI projects
TRUST from the Baden-Württemberg Foundation and ReScaLe from the Carl Zeiss Foundation.
Data Wonderland is organized by NEXUS Experiments, which is part of the Center for
BrainLinks-BrainTools at the University of Freiburg. NEXUS Experiments is a
Platform for public engagement, participatory science communication, and
